Louisians, Marians show smarts at friendship meet academic events

Celebrating the 5th CICM Schools Friendship Meet in University of Saint Louis (USL)-Tuguegarao City not only gave way to the gathering of members of the congregation to manifest their friendship and support as expressed in the event’s theme “Makkorofun, Makkarauffun,” but it was also an avenue to display Louisian and Marian academic prowess among others.

As per tradition, Quiz Bee, On-the-Spot Poster Making, and Extemporaneous Speaking were the organized academic events for Elementary and Secondary levels. Meanwhile, Debate and Pautakan (Quiz Bee) were a first in history for the Tertiary level.

Smart minds from the different schools paved through question after question for the different categories under Quiz Bee, namely: Bible Quiz, CICM Trivia, Current Events, Ecology, Language and Literature, and Mathematics in which Saint Louis College-City of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) won three golds.

Moreover, Saint Louis University (SLU)-Baguio City won gold medals in both English and Filipino categories of Extemporaneous Speaking while SLC-SFLU topped the On-the-Spot-Poster Making Contest. The High School academic events were held on Feb. 12, 2016.

Picking the questions from fishbowls, a USL Elementary faculty member quizzed the pupils about CICM, Current Events, English, Mathematics, and Science in which all contenders fought a survival-of-the-fittest quiz bee with the tie breakers conducted in order for a lone school to be declared the best. In the end, USL and SLU each garnered two golds while SLC-Cebu won one gold.

The clash of vocabulary and creativity skills followed, with Spelling Bee and On-the-Spot Poster Making Contest won by SLC-SFLU and Saint Mary’s University (SMU) respectively. The Elementary academic events took place on Feb. 13, 2016.

For the College level, the Debate Championship match between USL and SLC-SFLU on Feb. 13 was a clash of logic and arguments, but in the end, USL (4-0) bagged the gold. The host school was likewise hailed champion in Pautakan, held during the opening day of the Friendship Meet, Feb. 11.

The next Friendship Meets are celebrations to look forward to because of the athletic, socio-cultural and academic competitions that toss the different CICM institutions in a battle of skills but bind the whole congregation tighter at the end of the day, just as the 5th CICM Schools Friendship Meet has manifested.
